This modern recreation of Palladio’s Villa Malcontenta is perched on a rocky hilltop. It was a real challenge integrating it into the site, but the results are spectacular. It features a stucco exterior with accurately reproduced trim details and Doric columns surrounding a screened porch with breathtaking views. We were subsequently called back to build a free standing garage with an apartment, as well as a pool house. It was a real pleasure to be involved in the owner’s vision.
This home replaced an older home that had fallen into a state of disrepair. It was built as a spec home using low-maintenance exterior materials such as PVC trim and Hardie siding. Large windows throughout the house provide for a well-lit interior, which features tall ceilings, custom cabinetry and millwork, stone countertops, hardwood floors, and beautiful tile work.
We believe the workmanship and attention to architectural detail speaks for itself in this project. What is not immediately obvious is how the home functions. Heating and cooling are accomplished with a ground loop geothermal system with radiant floors and four air handlers. Two Energy Recovery Ventilators are used to introduce fresh air into the the well-insulated structure. A Lutron smart home system controls the mechanical systems and lighting.

The architectural style of this house is the simple raised ranch. The way it is sited on the lot, and the use of materials and colors, make this home something more. We were happy to turn the owner's vision into reality in a most unusual home.

Energy efficiency has long been important at Innovative Building and Design. This is our first passive solar home built in 1981. Solar domestic hot water is featured. Originally designed as a vacation home, it became the owner's full time residence. We were called back to add an attached garage with additional living space above.
